Critical Registrar is committed to accuracy in all of its reporting. When we fall short of that standard, we correct the record clearly, promptly, and in public.

Policy

Errors of fact are corrected directly on the article in which they appeared. Each correction includes a note stating what was inaccurate, what has been changed, and the date of the correction. We do not alter published articles without disclosing that a change has been made, this applies regardless of how long ago a piece was published.

For errors that materially affect the meaning of a story, or that concern a person's reputation, we also examine how the error passed through our editorial process, to prevent similar failures in future coverage. Headlines, photo captions, and social media posts are held to the same standard as article text.

Corrections, Updates, and Editor's Notes

A correction addresses information that was inaccurate at the time of publication and can be fixed with a note describing the change. An update reflects new information in a story that is still developing, most commonly in breaking news coverage, and is marked with a timestamp rather than a correction notice. When an error is serious enough that the article needs to be substantially rewritten, not just corrected with a note, we revise the piece and add an editor's note at the top explaining what was wrong and what changed. All three are disclosed to readers.

Reporting an Error

Readers who believe an article contains a factual error are encouraged to contact us at corrections@critreg.com, with the article link, the specific claim in question, and, where available, supporting evidence.

Every report is reviewed by an editor. If a correction is warranted, it will be published on the article along with an explanation. If we determine that a correction is not warranted, we will explain our reasoning to the reader who raised it.
