Nigerian singer Mavo has apologised for comments he made about fellow artists during his early years on social media, after some of his old posts resurfaced and drew renewed criticism online.
The resurfaced posts showed Mavo taking aim at several figures in the Nigerian music industry, including Davido and Ayra Starr, prompting fresh reactions from social media users.
Addressing the controversy, Mavo acknowledged that he was once overly invested in criticising other entertainers.
“I was a bad entertainment critic when I started uni until I realized superstars don't really care about Twitter,” he wrote.
Mavo said his approach changed when he stopped focusing on other artists and turned his attention to his own music. He described the change as a more peaceful period of his life.
“I stopped criticizing and focused solely on my music and since then it's been bliss,” he added.
The singer also acknowledged that some of his earlier comments had caused hurt, even if that was not his intention, and apologised to those affected.
“My criticism sadly, unfortunately & unintentionally hurt quite a number of people & I'm honestly sorry,” Mavo said.
He added that meeting some of the people he had previously criticised changed his perception of them. According to him, his personal encounters did not match the judgments he had made from a distance.
“I have met most of these people and they actually turn out to be amazing people. I'm sorry for my misjudgment. Let love lead,” he concluded.
Mavo's apology comes as his old posts continue to circulate online, bringing renewed attention to opinions he expressed before he became more focused on his own music career.
