SEOUL, South Korea — North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited a newly opened military museum displaying the country's Hwasong-20 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), state news agency KCNA reported Tuesday.
Kim attended the opening ceremony on Sunday with his wife, Ri Sol Ju, and their daughter, Ju Ae. Photographs released by KCNA showed the family viewing exhibits featuring missiles, drones and other weapons developed under his leadership.
The Hwasong-20 was displayed on a launcher alongside a diagram that appeared to show a multiple-warhead system. A world map in the exhibit indicated the missile's potential reach, including the continental United States and other regions.

Shin Jong-woo, secretary general of the Korea Defense and Security Forum, said the exhibition appeared intended to showcase North Korea's military development. He also suggested that its timing could be significant amid the possibility of renewed contact between Pyongyang and Washington.
However, the display alone does not establish whether the Hwasong-20 is operational or has demonstrated the range shown on the map.
Trump Considers Meeting Kim
The museum opening came after US President Donald Trump said he might meet Kim during his planned visit to Asia in November. Trump is expected to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in China.
The two leaders last met in 2019, following their first summit in Singapore in June 2018 and a second meeting in Hanoi in February 2019. Their final encounter that year was a brief meeting at the border between North and South Korea.
Their discussions focused on North Korea's nuclear weapons programme and efforts to improve relations with the United States. However, negotiations failed to produce a lasting denuclearization agreement.
As of Tuesday, no new meeting had been confirmed.
North Korea Reports Missile Test
North Korea also reported a tactical ballistic missile test on Monday. KCNA said the launch was intended to assess an upgrade to one of the missile's components, describing the work as a step towards improving the performance of the country's offensive weapons.
South Korea's military separately reported that North Korea had fired multiple ballistic missiles towards waters off its eastern coast. The launches came amid a series of weapons tests by Pyongyang in recent weeks.
