More than five decades after Stephen King published Carrie in 1974, the story is finally being adapted as a television series. Mike Flanagan developed the eight-episode series for Prime Video, and it's set to premiere on 7 October 2026.
Summer Howell plays Carrie White, a teenager who lives with her mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). After the death of her father, Carrie starts attending public high school, where she struggles with bullying and the pressures of fitting in. The new series brings the story into the social-media era while following Carrie as her telekinetic powers begin to develop during her teenage years.
Howell landed the role after an audition process that involved more than 1,000 actresses. The cast also includes Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle.
Flanagan wrote the series and serves as an executive producer. He also directed four episodes. Stephen King is among the executive producers, while Kate Siegel, Axelle Carolyn, Kyra Sedgwick and Hiromi Kamata directed the remaining four episodes. Amazon MGM Studios produces the series.
This is the first television adaptation of Carrie. King's novel has previously been adapted into the films Carrie (1976), Carrie (2002) and Carrie (2013). A sequel, The Rage: Carrie 2, was released in 1999.
The recurring cast includes Michael Trucco, Crystal Balint, Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Tim Bagley and Heather Graham.
