​ The release of the new Street Fighter movie is nearing, and the latest trailer provides a preview of some of the fighters who will face each other in the film, which comes out in October next month.

In the film, Andrew Koji is set to play Ryu, while Noah Centineo will take on the role of Ken Masters. The two have so far been the focal point of the marketing for the film, and in the recent trailer, they get more attention as the story heads towards the World Warrior Tournament.

The film is set in 1993 and features several iconic figures from the video game series. For instance, Callina Liang plays Chun-Li, who recruits Ryu and Ken for the tournament. M. Bison will be played by David Dastmalchian, while Jason Momoa takes on the part of Blanka. Cody Rhodes takes up the role of Guile, with Roman Reigns portraying Akuma.

The recent trailer does not feature a lot of backstory, but there are some fights that include many of the moves seen in the video games. Ryu's Hadoken is one such example. In addition to that, there are moments for some of the other characters that fans of the Street Fighter games will recognise.

There is also an interesting mix of personalities and actors in the cast. Along with Koji, Centineo, and Liang, there are Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns, two stars from WWE. Other names in the cast include rapper 50 Cent, who plays Balrog, while Eric André plays Don Sauvage, the tournament organiser. Dhalsim will be played by Vidyut Jammwal, while Olivier Richters will play Zangief.

The movie will be directed by Kitao Sakurai, with the screenplay written by Dalan Musson and Gary Dauberman. It is the latest effort to bring the video game fighting franchise to the big screen, following the Street Fighter film of 1994, which starred Jean-Claude Van Damme.

The current film is quite different from the one produced 30 years ago. There is a lot of focus on the unique mixture of martial arts and flamboyant characters that have always been associated with the Street Fighter franchise. This has been reflected in the trailers for the upcoming movie.

Street Fighter is due for release in theatres on 16 October 2026.
